The Power of Together
Mar 19, 2025
A client recently confessed to me that sometimes she feels like she already “should” know how to do something.
There is a voice in her head chiming in, commenting and critiquing as she is about to learn something new that this is something that she should have already known.
→ It’s a subtle, quiet voice, but loud enough sometimes to keep her from asking for help.
Can you relate to this? ππ»βοΈ
Last week, I talked about tuning into your own inner wisdom—about learning to trust that quiet voice inside of you to become your own best teacher.
I talked about becoming less reliant on outside sources for your answers.
If you missed that, READ IT HERE.
So while it's absolutely crucial to go within and find your answers there…the thing is, we can’t do it all alone.
We’re not meant to be islands.
Collaboration, connection, community….this is just as necessary for growth as much as it is to tune inward.
It’s learning to do the dance, finding the balance of going inward and outward. (Which will look differently for everyone!)
This week, let’s dive into the magic of asking for support, opening ourselves up to receiving, and how co-creating with others can supercharge your growth as a creative being. πβ¨
We’re All in This Together π€
As much as I personally LOVE independence, I’ve realized the hard way through the years that it’s not possible for me to do everything by myself. (Oh, how I’ve tried!!! π )
Research shows that connection, being with others, having community is vital for our happiness. Fact.
And creativity thrives in connection.
If singing for you is about sharing your voice, then the process of performing is relational.
Even when you're writing a song by yourself, you’re creating something that’s meant to be shared with the world π.
That energy exchange—between you and your audience, your collaborators, or fellow artists—is where the real magic happens.
Or, if you are singing for yourself, if you’re not interested in singing for others, then perhaps that connection, that healing, that growth for you blossoms with the support of a coach or a teacher co-creating that safe space for you.
Asking for Support: It’s an Act of Strength πͺπ
I think for many of us we do feel like we should have everything figured out.
We know rationally that it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help. In fact, it’s one of your superpowers. π¦ΈβοΈ
It’s about being able to name the voice in your head that’s keeping you from doing just that.
It’s recognizing that more support is required and that by asking for that support you align with the wisest part of yourself.
Whether it’s asking for feedback from a vocal coach, collaborating with another artist, or simply asking a friend for a little moral support when you’re feeling down—asking for that support is a powerful, expansive act.
It’s okay to admit that you don’t have it all figured out.
The best part? When you ask for support, you invite others to be part of your journey.
You create a circle of people that witness your expansion and growth and hold you in that journey.
It feeds you, it nourishes you, it sustains you.
It could be a suggestion that sparks a breakthrough, or just someone to remind you how amazing you are when you forget. ππ
The Art of Receiving: Let the Good Stuff In πβ¨
Here's the thing: asking for support is one thing, but receiving it is just as important. π€―
It’s easy to give—whether it’s advice, feedback, or just your energy. But receiving? That’s next level. π€
When you allow yourself to receive love, receive compliments, receive constructive feedback, and receive even the occasional critique, you're making space for more creative flow.
It’s like opening the window to let in fresh air. You need that air to breathe, grow, and create.
It’s not always easy to do. There may be stories about being deserving. Stories about identity.
See if you can create a little space within yourself to allow for the compliment, to allow for the help.
Breathe through the uncomfortable feelings.
Allow that fresh air to do its magic.
Co-Creation: A Little Magic Happens When We Create Together β¨πΆ
Co-creation challenges you to think outside the box, try new things, and break free from the limits of doing it all yourself.
It’s where answers are found.
A game we play in A Course in Joyful Singing is based on an improv game, “Yes, And.”
It’s a powerful way of collaborating with others to find solutions to where you are getting stuck- where you need answers.
It’s brainstorming, being able to think outside the box, but using trusted friends to help get you to that place.
When we open ourselves up to co-creating, we can find solutions we would possibly never discover all on our own.
Community: You Don’t Have to Do It Alone π
Being part of a community is like having a safety net underneath you while you jump higher and higher in your journey.
Whether it’s fellow singers who get you, or coaches who’ve got your back—your community is there to support you, lift you up, and keep you going when the road gets tough. πͺ
And the beautiful thing about being part of a community is this: it’s reciprocal.
You give, you get, and it all comes full circle.
When you open up, share your struggles, celebrate your victories, and lean on others for support, you create a deeper, richer connection that fuels your artistic growth. π±
This is precisely why I created A Course in Joyful Singing and why I included a Communities Hub as part of the experience.
I wanted to create a process that allows you to do that deep dive within yourself to find those answers, but also be held in the process.
Have other likeminded singers going through the same things you are, be able to share in that experience, feel safe, feel held, feel encouraged, feel that comradery so you don’t feel isolated, you don’t feel alone.
Again it’s the thing that’s going to propel you forward.
Solitude and Connection, The Perfect Balance βοΈ
At the end of the day, it’s about finding that sweet spot between going within for your own answers and reaching out to others for connection and collaboration.
Both are essential for your growth as a singer, as a creator, and as a human.
So this week, I encourage you to embrace the power of collaboration.
Ask yourself where you could use support and make a brave ask.
Receive love and feedback with an open heart, and see if you can find ways this week to collaborate with someone, whether it be brainstorming, a creative collaboration or chatting with a friend.
Let me know what you think! I’m all ears!! Send me a DM on Insta or here through my website.
If you're one of those that struggles with asking for support, please know you are not alone! I'm cheering you on over here! π£ ππ»
